Elden Ring DLC Magic Type Tier List (Best Sorcery & Incantation Ranked)
Which is the most powerful Magic type you should use in Elden Ring DLC based on your gameplay? Here we are going to rank all sorceries and incantations together to give you the answer!
Elden Ring DLC Magic Tier List - Best Sorcery & Incantation Type Ranking
In Elden Ring, magic isn't just a tool—it's a vast and deeply interwoven part of the lore, spanning from the cosmic glintstone sorceries of Raya Lucaria to the fiery incantations of dragon communion. With Shadow of the Erdtree adding even more depth to the magic system, you'll find yourself with an even greater arsenal of arcane, faith, and intelligence-based spells to master. But with so many options to choose from, which ones truly stand out?
That's where our tier list comes in. With a total of 28 distinct magic types (not counting offshoots like Loretta’s sorceries or Divine-based spells), we've done the heavy lifting to rank each type based on their raw power, utility, and how well they integrate into different playstyles.
31. Loretta Sorceries
Loretta’s sorceries are a small, forgettable pair of spells that never quite found their place. Despite being visually appealing, they lack synergy with the game’s other sorcery catalysts and are outperformed by more basic spells. It took FromSoft a year just to fix the hitbox on Loretta’s Mastery, which speaks volumes about how little attention this sorcery type gets.
30. Two Fingers Incantations
The Two Fingers incantations are supposed to be holy, but most of them fall flat. With 15 spells, only a couple (Great Heal and Lord’s Divine Protection) are worth using. The rest are either inefficient or flat-out terrible, making this subclass one of the least appealing options for any build.
29. Spiral Incantations
Spiral incantations have a paltry four spells, none of which are reliable. Watchful Spirit still suffers from poor tracking, and the damage output of the other spells is mediocre at best. Even after multiple patches, this spell type remains underwhelming.
28. Divine Incantations
Divine incantations are an odd bunch, with spells that feel out of place. While Beast Tornado has improved over time, most of these spells are still overly expensive to cast and underperform when compared to their sorcery counterparts.
27. Miquellan Incantations
This subtype had massive potential, but it mostly fizzled out. While Saw Blade is a pretty cool spell, it’s not enough to redeem the missed potential of Miquellan’s whole identity. The other spells are clunky and don’t live up to the lore tied to Miquella.
26. Clayman Sorceries
Clayman Bubble Sorceries are niche at best. They’re decent for setting up combos if you can get enemies to walk into them, but they’re essentially the same spell with minor differences. Their stat requirements are high for how early you find them, making them an oddball in the game’s lineup.
25. Placidusax’s Ruin
Boasting only one spell, Placidusax’s Ruin is a high-risk, high-reward spell that’s hard to fit into a build. Its lack of synergy with boosting items and its long cast time make it a tough sell for most players.
24. Full Moon Sorceries
These sorceries are all about utility, but they have limited use outside of specific builds. The two vanilla moon sorceries offer debuffs that can be useful in endgame scenarios, but they’re not worth the investment for most players.
23. Death Sorceries
Death sorceries suffer from scaling problems and high stat requirements. Spells like Explosive Ghostflame and Tibia’s Summons are fun but inefficient, and even the better spells like Fia’s Mist have too many drawbacks to be top-tier.
22. Thorn Sorceries
The Thorn sorceries have fallen from grace. An 80% damage nerf to Impenetrable Thorns has made this once-strong set of spells irrelevant. The remaining spells are still functional, but none of them stand out in a meaningful way.
21. Blood Oath Incantations
Once a dominant force, the Blood Oath incantations have mostly fallen out of favor. However, Bloodflame Talons has managed to stay relevant and outshine the rest of the set, making it the only real standout in this now-mediocre category.
20. Golden Order Incantations
Discus of Light is a solid, FP-efficient spell that offers great damage and utility. However, the rest of the Golden Order incantations are underwhelming. Spells like Law of Causality and Immutable Shield don’t hold up compared to other support or damage options.
19 & 18. Primeval and Crystalian Sorceries
Both Primeval and Crystalian sorceries follow a similar formula: high stat requirements and limited utility. They’re powerful in specific situations, but you’ll rarely find yourself relying on them. Comet Azur and Crystal Torrent are decent picks, but the rest of these spells are niche at best.
17. Bestial Incantations
Bestial incantations are oddballs. Spells like Bestial Sling have fallen out of favor, but Stone of Gurranq and Bestial Constitution remain solid picks. The lack of scaling with faith on regeneration spells like Bestial Vitality hurts their viability.
16. Erdtree Incantations
The Erdtree incantations are some of the most well-rounded in the game, offering both support and damage options. Spells like Golden Vow and Flame, Cleanse Me are staples in many builds, but others like Elden Stars are better left forgotten.
15. Servants of Rot
The Servants of Rot incantations are an odd mix. The two Pest Thread spells are incredibly powerful, but the rest of the set lacks synergy and feels incomplete. With no seal to boost these spells, they’re stuck in a weird limbo despite their potential.
14. Night Sorceries
Night Comet is a standout spell that remains powerful, but the rest of the night sorceries are situational at best. They’re great for trickery and anti-mage tactics, but they lack offensive versatility.
13. Cold Sorceries
Cold sorceries are a mixed bag, with Adula's Moonblade standing head and shoulders above the rest. The other spells, like Freezing Mist and Frozen Armament, are decent but don’t come close to the power of the Moonblade.
12. Magma Sorceries
Magma sorceries are unique in that they offer sorcerers a way to deal fire damage. While they’re not the most efficient spells, their ability to brute force their way through enemies makes them a fun option for players looking to shake up their builds.
11. Fire Knight Incantations
The Fire Knight incantations are solid across the board. While there are only three of them, each one is effective in its own way. Their low stat requirements make them accessible, and they’re great for players who want to dabble in fire without committing to a full build.
10. Dragon Communion Incantations
Dragon Communion spells offer some of the highest damage ceilings in the game, but they come with significant FP costs and long recovery times. While they’re fun to use, they’re not the most efficient option for most players.
9. Fire Monk Incantations
The Fire Monk incantations are simple but powerful. Catch Flame and Flame Sling are easy to use and highly effective, making them a staple in many faith builds. Their straightforward nature is their greatest strength.
8. Frenzyflame Incantations
The Frenzyflame incantations excel in both PvE and PvP, offering some of the best fire damage builds in the game. Spells like Howl of Shabriri and Unendurable Frenzy can wreak havoc on enemies, but the self-damage mechanics keep them from being top-tier.
7. Fire Giant Incantations
The Fire Giant incantations are a solid all-around choice for any build that focuses on fire damage. Spells like Flame, Protect Me and Flame, Cleanse Me are staples in many builds, and even the weaker spells have niche uses.
6. Godslayer Incantations
Godslayer incantations are incredibly powerful, but they suffer from diminishing returns in the DLC. While the black flame debuff is still useful, many of the new enemies have resistances that make these spells less effective in the late game.
5. Glintstone Sorceries
Glintstone sorceries are the bread and butter of any sorcerer build. They offer a wide variety of options, from basic damage spells like Comet Shard to utility spells like Magic Glintblade. They’re accessible and effective, making them a reliable choice for any mage.
4. Gravity Sorceries
Gravity sorceries are incredibly efficient and powerful. With a boost from the Meteorite Staff, these spells can deal massive damage while using very little FP. Their ability to control the battlefield by pulling enemies into range makes them invaluable in a variety of situations.
3. Finger Sorceries
The Finger sorceries are a small but mighty group. Each spell in this set excels at both damage and utility, making them one of the most well-rounded sorcery types in the game. They’re perfect for players who want to mix offense and defense in their build.
2. Carian Sorceries
Carian sorceries offer a wide range of utility and damage options. Spells like Carian Slicer and Carian Greatsword are staples in many builds, while others like Carian Retaliation offer unique defensive capabilities. This is a versatile and powerful school of magic.
1. Dragon Cult Incantations
Finally, the top spot goes to the Dragon Cult incantations. With their high damage, utility, and status effects, these spells are some of the most powerful in the game. Spells like Ancient Dragon’s Lightning Strike and Fortissax’s Lightning Spear can decimate enemies, and the addition of support spells makes this set the most well-rounded and devastating magic type in Elden Ring.
